"Did you know?" - Goldenrod, a plantable miracle.
Ohio boasts 21 species of Goldenrod which is a perennial of over 100 species in North America. That's fortunate, because Goldenrod is a workhorse type of plant, with strong attributes that no other perennial can match:
Goldenrod supports the greatest number of pollinator larvae of all perennials, , over 100 species of irreplaceable butterflies, moths, bees and others. This allows in turn a remarkable increase in the survival of other native plant species, as well as the bio-availability of sustenance for birds and other animal life. Goldenrod's roots run deep! This brings enriching minerals to the upper soil, giving season-long flower production to this host plant, while improving local soil structure. Goldenrod roots also fix nitrogen, further enriching the soil for other plants, aiding in soil moisture retention and preventing erosion.
