Bottle gentian is a showy wildflower native to Ohio fens, flood plain forests, and other areas with rich, moist soil in partial shade. Clusters of dark blue to purple flowers in late summer through fall that never actually open. Only strong bees can force the corolla open to reach the nectar and deposit pollen. 1' - 3' plants tend to lean at maturity. Slow growing but long-lived.
