Medium-sized tree in the white oak group. Called post oak because its durable wood has been used for fence posts. Insignificant yellowish-green flowers appear in spring as the leaves emerge. Oval acorns. Rough, often leathery, dark green leaves with cruciform appearance. Stellata means starlike, refers to leaf shape. Variable fall color from yellow and brown.
