Alkaline soil tolerant, this small deciduous species has glossy green foliage and thrives in woodland borders and rockeries. Spreads quickly to become a low, drought tolerant groundcover. Spikey tan flowers in March to April above plants 4 - 8" tall. Native to Europe and central Russia. Deer resistant. Black walnut tolerant.
