A striking cultivar of black gum selected for its tight, pyramidal form, brilliant scarlet-red fall color, and strong central leader. Summer foliage is glossy dark green, making a dramatic contrast. Performs well in moist, acidic soils and tolerates occasional wetness. Makes an excellent specimen shade tree or focal point in mixed borders. Flowers attract bees and other pollinators; fruit attracts birds.
